CERT Program of Kirkland, WA

What is CERT?

Community Emergency Response Team training is a FEMA-based curriculum designed to teach adults of all ages and abilities how to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors during a disaster when police, fire, and medical services are overwhelmed.

The Kirkland CERT program is now run by the city's Office of Emergency ManagementAs was the case when this program was volunteer run, the city offers the full 8-week CERT training course twice a year.  CERT graduates may choose to become members of their neighborhood's CERT team, which is still a volunteer-run aspect of the program.  Ongoing training and skill refresher classes are offered frequently.  CERT team members could be invited to participate in drills with other Kirkland Office of Emergency Management volunteer programs, like Kirkland Emergency Communications Team (amateur radio operators).  Please contact the city directly to coordinate public outreach engagements (like wellness fairs), and disaster preparedness presentations to community groups and organizations, this aspect of the program is no longer handled by volunteers.

Kirkland CERTs in Action!

These photos are from an event organized by Karen Edgerton, a Kirkland CERT team member, in coordination with the leaders of several city volunteer programs (including CERT, the Kirkland Emergency Communications Team and Map Your Neighborhood).  The event was held in October 6, 2018 at Lake Washington Christian Church.

Public Education and Outreach are part of our mission!  With adequate notice, we are usually able to provide volunteers to come talk about emergency preparedness at your community event.

It was filmed at Fire Station #26 during the Fall 2015 CERT class.
One of our CERT students, Philip Bickford, with InFlight Imaging shot the video with his drone.

Thanks, Philip, for the awesome video!
