This is the second of a two-part class series and is open to anyone who has completed the Introduction to Post-Disaster Mental Health Support class or who has previously received Health Support Team (HST) training and would like a refresher.   Utilizing the HST curriculum, class participants will continue training in helping family, friends and community members cope with emotional shock and stress responses in the aftermath of a disaster.  Areas covered include situation assessment for urgency, safety risk, action and behavior; determining when to listen and when to refer; how to work with anger, grief and loss.

This Advanced HST Training class focuses on the acute response phase of a disaster and how to address more challenging mental health situations when a professional is not available.

The class is taught by CERT Instructors Christina Brugman, Janet Merriam, and Tricia Parker.  Contact Janet with questions or concerns at jmerriam@kirklandwa.gov.
