The program meets once a week on Mondays starting September 10 from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. You must commit to attending all 8 classes and the final drill when you register.  The lessons in the course are cumulative and attendance is required for each class.

The course will end with a full-scale disaster simulation drill on Saturday, November 3rd from 9:00am to 3:30pm at City Hall.

A graduation ceremony will be held during a City Council meeting at City Hall, date to be announced.

Classes will be held at Kirkland City Hall in the Peter Kirk Room. The address is 123 Fifth Avenue, Kirkland, WA 98033.

Registration is $35 for Kirkland residents (those who live, work, or attend school in Kirkland); the cost is $50 for non-residents.

The fee includes preparedness and personal safety supplies.  Payment should be made as soon as possible after registering, your spot is not guaranteed in the class until payment is received.

To be fair to all this policy is strictly enforced, no exceptions.

Community Emergency Response Training is a hands-on course taught by an instructing team of Kirkland firefighters and trained citizen CERT instructors. Participants will learn how to support their neighborhoods and community by preparing for and responding to catastrophic disasters when first responders who provide fire and medical services will be overwhelmed.  Personal preparedness, quick decision making skills, and rescuer safety are also emphasized.

Classes include instruction in personal preparedness, disaster medical operations, fire suppression, light search and rescue operations, disaster psychology, recognizing potential acts of terrorism, and team organization.

All participants must complete the online FEMA Independent Study course 317 before class begins.  IS-317 is an introduction to CERT; completing the online training ahead of time will allow us to minimize lecturing from PowerPoints and instead, focus on hands-on experience during our class time.  You may access the course via this link: https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=is-317

Please email a copy of your certificate of completion no later than Monday, September 3rd to cert@kirklandwa.gov.
