Putting the TEAM in CERT

When disaster strikes, it is imperative that CERTs work in teams for their safety and effectiveness. You probably don’t know who the other CERTs are in your neighborhood, nor where they live. Thus it is unlikely that you have a plan or a designated meeting place. All that is about to change!

The Kirkland CERT Steering Committee volunteers have been working hard to update the database of available CERTs and to organize them into neighborhoods. Now we are ready to call the CERTs together to start forming strong, effective teams which are prepared to implement their CERT training in the aftermath of a disaster.

On Saturday, November 9, 2013, we will provide the opportunity for you to meet the other CERTs in your neighborhood and begin planning. The whole process will only take one hour of your time. When you leave you will have a list of all the CERTs in your neighborhood, a temporary coordinator, a provisional meeting place, and a plan of action. We will provide refreshments and door prizes.

The meeting day schedule is outlined below.  Smaller, adjacent neighborhoods will share meeting times. Neighborhoods with a large number of CERTs will have their own meeting time.

  • 9:00 – 9:55am Market, Norkirk, Highlands
  • 10:00 – 10:55am Evergreen Hill / Kingsgate, Finn Hill, Totem Lake
  • 11:00 – 11:55am Juanita
  • 1:00 – 1:55pm Everest, Moss Bay, Central Houghton, Lakeview
  • 2:00 – 2:55pm North Rose Hill, South Rose Hill, and Bridle Trails

If you are a Kirkland resident and do not know your neighborhood, please Contact Us and we will look it up for you. If you work in Kirkland but don’t live here, you should attend the meeting of the neighborhood in which you work.  If you neither work nor live in Kirkland, you could attend the meeting of the closest neighborhood. We are also happy to put you in touch with the CERT coordinator for your jurisdiction.

The meeting will take place at Fire Station 26 (map). The address is 9930 124th Avenue NE, Kirkland, WA 98033.  The parking lot is small, but there is plenty of street parking.
